Our Story: How The Burrow Came to Be
It all started with the pandemic lockdown.
There we were, crammed into a two-bedroom apartment near NYC with a very active toddler and one very playful Shiba Inu. "Trapped" is a strong word, but... yeah, we were trapped. All day, every day. This led to endless games of indoor tag, a lot of bouncing, and an impressive number of non-stopping complaints from our downstairs neighbor. (Sorry, Frank!)
We knew we needed space. Like, a lot more space.
So, we set out on a quest, scrolling endlessly for an escape in the Catskill Mountain. And then, we found it. This gem of a house.
It wasn't just a house. It was a sanctuary. Nestled on six private acres and backing up to hundreds more of protected NYC forest, it was unlike anything we'd ever seen. It had over 3,000 square feet, a unique earth berm structure, a sauna, a cozy family room with radiant heated floors, a dreamy loft, wood-burning stoves... the list just kept going.
Outside, there was a big lawn, a stone fire pit, a small greenhouse, winding trails, and even a tiny pond with its own choir of frogs. The place was teeming with wildlife—foxes, deers, rabbits, wild turkeys, and guinea fowls. It was close to farms, shops, and ski areas, yet it felt a million miles away. It was fascinating, and it was perfect.
And just like that, we got the house.
We dove in headfirst. We weren't just new homeowners. We became part-time farmers. With our daughter as the chief project manager, we hatched and raised 13 ducks (3 tiny call ducks and 10 American Pekins) and 10 "genius" guinea fowls. We planted flowers, herbs, fruits, and veggies all around the property. We made some updates to the kitchen, installed that incredible round tub in the loft, and hung that swing chair (a non-negotiable for a perfect reading spot).
This place became our world. We explored every local farm, market, restaurant, and trail we could find. We had epic movie nights, both indoor and out, counted stars on the big lawn, roasted way too many s'mores by the fire pit, and just listened... To the rains, to the birds chirping, and to the satisfying rustle of leaves in the wind. It was just like a dream come true.
When the world slowly opened back up, the house's purpose evolved. It became the gathering spot for our family and friends. We host our annual trips here, cook huge meals, talk for hours, often way past midnight, and play together...
We realized this space has a magical power. It has a way of bringing people together. It helps everyone slow down, unwind, and escape from all the noise and the hustle. It's a place to relax, to reconnect, and to enjoy life a little bit more.
Now, we want to share that magic with you.
